CHINA GROVE, N.C. — Rowan County Deputies are searching for a man accused of stabbing his girlfriend and then leading officers from Cornelius on a police chase.
Deputies were called to a home on Thunder Road on October 14th in reference to a stabbing. A 28-year-old woman was found at the home suffering from multiple stab wounds, including an injury to her neck, according to a news release.
Deputies say her cell phone and cash were also taken when the suspect fled the scene. Investigators determined the suspect is the victim’s boyfriend. He has been identified as 33-year-old Michael Battle.
The woman was taken to a local hospital and treated for several serious stab wounds. Detectives say they obtained felony warrants on Battle for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, robbery with a dangerous weapon and second degree kidnapping.
Deputies were unable to locate Battle overnight. On Monday morning, officers with the Cornelius Police Department responded to a suspicious vehicle in a store parking lot and identified the driver as Battle. That is when officers say Battle fled the parking lot in his vehicle with Cornelius Police in pursuit. After a brief car chase police say Battle was able to elude arrest.
He now has additional warrants for the chase. Police say he is also wanted for failure to pay child support. Battle was last seen driving a blue 2002 Ford Explorer.
Anyone with information on Battle’s location needs to call 911.
