HICKORY, NC — A 24-year-old man will spend at least eight years in prison after he was convicted Thursday of charges related to an armed robbery in 2016.
Montavious Mayfield was found guilty of Robbery with a Firearm and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Firearm by a Catawba County jury on October 11th. Mayfield was then sentenced to eight to 11 years in prison.
On October 29, 2016, Mayfield, along with an unidentified co-defendant, robbed a convenience store on Old Lenoir Road. Mayfield reportedly fired a shot past the clerk with his .45 caliber semi-automatic rifle while demanding money from the register.
While leaving the store, police say Mayfield disposed of his gloves and clothing used to cover his face out back, but then returned early the next morning to retrieve the items. A witness reportedly saw him looking for the items and reported it to police.
Investigators were able to locate the items, and say they used DNA evidence to link Mayfield to the crime.
