McKeithen Family Speaks Out For First Time In New York Times Report

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The family of 16-year-old Bobby McKeith who was fatally shot at Butler High School on Monday is speaking out for the first time.

In a New York Times report, the McKeithen family put out a statement:

“As parents we never expect to send our children to school and they not return home. The pain that we are experiencing is a pain that no mother or no father should ever have to experience.”

The family also went on to ask for prayers.

Kids at other schools are wearing red and black on Tuesday to honor Bobby. Some of them have left signs outside of Butler High to show their support for the school.

Just before, hundreds gathered at the school on Monday night to light candles and release balloons for Bobby. The sophomore was gunned down, police say, by fellow student and accused shooter 16-year-old Jatwan Cuffie.

Cuffie heads to court Tuesday to answer to first degree murder charges.
