Tracking Major Weekend Storm
Mostly quiet and cool conditions are expected through Friday with highs in the 40s and 50s, overnight lows in the 20s and 30s. Clouds will increase Friday night as a major storm approaches from the west. Expect very unsettled conditions late Saturday through at least the first half of Monday. Heavy rain, wintry mix, and snow will impact the area. The mountains and foothills will see significant impacts, heavy snow and sleet. A foot or more is possible, very significant. Between i-40 and i-85, north and west of Charlotte, freezing rain will mix in with the snow and sleet which will decrease snow totals. Regardless, big impacts are expected in this region as roads will be icy. South and east of i-85 will be cold and wet with significantly less snow. Freezing rain/sleet/rain will limit snow totals. The further south and east you get the impacts will decrease. Although some areas will certainly have bigger impacts than others, there is no question this is a monster storm. As the event gets closer the details will become more clear. Stay tuned!
