Police: Impaired Driver Arrested For Driving Wrong Way On Major Highway

DENVER, N.C. — Police say they arrested an impaired man for driving the wrong way on a major highway in Lincoln County.

Twenty-two year old Benjamin Lineberger is accused of driving the wrong way on Highway 16 near St. James Church Road early Sunday morning.

Investigators say he almost hit a patrol car before he finally stopped for police.  Once the vehicle was stopped, police noticed it had heavy front end damage, a bent steering wheel and the driver was bleeding from his mouth and nose.

Officers checked for accidents involving a hit and run driver but did not locate any.

Lineberger is also accused of giving police a fictitious name.  He has been charged with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, false information to police, failure to stop for blue lights, careless and reckless driving, wrong way on a dual lane highway and expired registration.
