Insurance Institute For Highway Safety Releases 2019 Safest Vehicles Report

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Are you thinking about buying a new car for the new year?

As you consider what car to buy, there are a lot of things to consider that go beyond style and speed. You may also want to consider safety.

The top 30 safest vehicles for 2019 is out.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety looked at strong-crash test performance, crash avoidance systems and high quality headlights.

Nearly all Subaru models landed on one of the top two lists. Kia and Hyundai, which are part of the same company, scored five and four wins.

The safest small car for 2019 is the Honda Insight.

For midsize cars- it’s the Hyundai Sonata.

The Toyota Avalon is the safest large car.

The top small SUV is the Hyundai Kona and the midsize is the Hyundai Santa Fe.
