GASTONIA, NC — The driver of a pickup truck involved in a three vehicle accident early Thursday morning has been charged with DWI.
Police say 57-year-old Clifford Scoggin was driving his 2001 Dodge Ram while impaired shortly before 7am when he rear-ended Amy Wright’s 2015 Nissan Sentra, which sent her crashing into the rear-end of a 2017 Honda Pilot.
The driver of the Pilot only received minor injuries.
Police say Wright and her two children, an 11-year-old and a 7-year-old, were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with injuries. The children were then reportedly transferred to CMC.
The 11-year-old is in critical condition, officials say, and the 7-year-old is in stable condition.
Scoggin is charged with DWI, Driving While License Revoked for DWI, two counts of Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle, Failure to Reduce Speed, and a Red Light Violation.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials say additional charges may be filed.
