Man Charged With Breaking Into Vehicles In Charlotte Has Been Arrested Nearly Two Dozen Times Since 2016

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say they arrested a man for breaking into several vehicles in southeast Charlotte.

On December 31st, officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a home on Castleton Road near North Sharon Amity in reference to a suspicious person, according to a news release.  The caller reportedly told police he heard a loud noise outside of his residence and upon reviewing his security cameras, he observed a man checking the door handles to vehicles parked in his driveway.

Upon the officers’ arrival, the suspect was located in close proximity to the victim’s home, according to a news release.

Officers detained the man until they could review the security camera.  Police say they determined the man in custody was the suspect in the video.  The man was identified as Demarco Threatt.

Later in the day, officers responded to multiple reports of breaking and entering calls in the same area where Threatt was initially encountered, according to a news release.

Officers say they were able to match the stolen property found on Threatt earlier in the day with property that had been stolen in the new reports.

Threatt has been charged with four counts of possession of stolen property, four counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and four counts of larceny.

A records check shows Threatt has been arrested 19 times since 2016 in Mecklenburg County.
