HEATH SPRINGS, SC — Authorities are investigating after one person was killed in an accident Wednesday night.
The accident happened around 6pm on Highway 521 near Ramblin Road. Troopers say the accident involved a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer, driven by Anthony Johnson, 50, and a 2010 Dodge Avenger.
Johnson was wearing a seat belt, troopers say, and was not injured.
The driver of the Avenger, later identified as 39-year-old Panisla “Penny” Drakeford Rice of Lincolnton, was reportedly not seat belted and pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers say two juveniles were also in the vehicle and taken to Springs Memorial with unspecified injuries.
Investigators say Johnson was backing into a private driveway when Rice struck the rear of the tractor trailer.
