HOWARDS CREEK, NC — A 29-year-old mother was killed Thursday morning after troopers say she ran off the road in Lincoln County and struck a tree.
The accident happened around 9:15am on NC 182 near Harmon Road. Troopers say Heather Hodge was driving a Dodge Caravan when she ran off the road while coming through a curve, struck a culvert and hit a tree.
Investigators say Hodge was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
Hodge’s 4-year-old son was also in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Troopers say the child was wearing a seat belt but was not properly restrained in a child seat.
He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
