MATTHEWS, N.C. — A Wilmington man is accused of stealing a woman’s car while she was taking her child to the orthodontist in Matthews.
Officers say the woman and her child had just arrived at Starr & Dickens Orthodontics on Matthews Township Parkway and were getting out of their vehicle when a man demanded the vehicle.
No weapons were reportedly displayed and neither the woman nor her child were injured.
The suspect, later identified as Stephen Taylor, was arrested after a Trooper with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and a deputy with the Union County Sheriff’s Office found Taylor inside the vehicle on the shoulder of Highway 74 at Morgan Mill Road.

Taylor was charged with driving while impaired, common law robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.
