Man Arrested After Allegedly Breaking Into Lenoir Area Church

LENOIR, NC — Police have arrested a man accused of breaking into a local church early Thursday morning.

Shortly after 9am, police say South Lenoir Church of God on Hickory Boulevard was broken into. Responding officers found a door that had been forced open and reviewed the church’s security video.

Police say they identified a black Ford F-150 with a camper shell leaving the area. That vehicle was soon spotted by a Lenoir Police Narcotics officer at the Walmart on Blowing Rock Boulevard, and the suspect was apprehended.

58-year-old Clayton Darr, of Granite Falls, is charged with one count Felony Breaking and Entering into a Place of Worship.

Investigators say they’re still trying to determine whether anything was stolen from the church, but damages to the door are estimated at around $250.
