IREDELL COUNTY, NC — The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says they are investigating after skeletal remains were found in a wooded area near Mooresville on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say the remains were found near a water tower around 3pm on Williamson Road at Bridgewater Lane. Someone reportedly “stumbled” across what are believed to be human remains and called 911.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell says the skull and scattered bones appear to have been there for a “lengthy amount of time.” It is not yet clear whether this is a case of suicide, homicide or missing person, Campbell says, but nothing has been ruled.
Investigators are still trying to determine whether the victim is a man or woman.
The area has been blocked off until the investigation can resume tomorrow.
