UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Detectives are still trying to determine why a 20-year-old man attacked and stabbed his 19-year-old friend in Union County, on Thursday night.
At about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Union County deputies responded to reports of a stabbing at a residence in the 1100 block of Deep Hollow Court in the Silver Creek subdivision near Wesley Chapel.
Arriving officers located the victim inside the residence waiting for help while family members tried to control his bleeding. Before being transported to CMC-Main, the victim told deputies that Dylan Vanderschel, 20, was the person who stabbed him. The victim was released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
Deputies went to Vanderschel’s residence in the 2500 block of Providence Hills Drive in Matthews. While deputies were at his residence, Vanderschel’s older brother called police and told authorities he was driving Dylan home.
Shortly thereafter, Dylan Vanderschel and his brother arrived at the residence. Deputies detained Vanderschel and observed blood on his hands and in the passenger area of the vehicle he was riding in.
Detectives interviewed both brothers at the Sheriff’s Office. Dylan Vanderschel was arrested and charged with Assault with Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. He remains in the Union County Jail. No charges have been filed against his brother.
