Novant Health: How to Properly Exercise in Freezing Temperatures

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sticking to your New Year’s fitness resolution can be tough, especially if you prefer to exercise outdoors when it’s freezing outside.

Dr. Eric Warren, the medical director of sports medicine with Novant Health, explains how to properly exercise in cold weather and what warning signs you should look out for if you’re outside doing any kind of activity.

No excuses! It’s okay to workout outside, unless you have a medical condition.

Dr. Warren also says the more you cover up the better. People tend to not always cover up their cheeks, ears and nose, and sometimes their toes. As soon as you feel a tingling sensation, numbness or pain, you should go back inside as this could lead to permanent skin damage.
