LANCASTER, S.C. — Lancaster Police are investigating a shooting that left a teenager with serious injuries over the weekend.
Officers were called to a home on North French Street just after 9pm on January 26th. The victim, a teenage girl, was found suffering from a serious gunshot wound, according to a news release.
She was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police say she remains hospitalized in serious, yet stable condition.
Police say the incident appears to be in the result of negligence as opposed to an intentional criminal act.
Chief Grant states “The Lancaster Police Department will continue to investigate this incident until we have the clearest picture possible concerning what occurred at this residence. At this point there is nothing to indicate that any type of intentional wrongdoing took place, beyond the obvious occurrence of juveniles around firearms, without the benefit of competent, adult supervision”.
As this investigation continues, we urge anyone with information to come forward.
