CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have identified the pedestrian who was lying in the road before being hit and killed by a vehicle in east Charlotte Friday night.
The CMPD says on Friday, February 1st, 2019, at about 11:54 p.m., officers responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on the Plaza.
Arriving officers located Eric Lee White, 41, unresponsive in the right eastbound lane.
Police say Mr. White was lying in the road when he was struck by a 2007 Kia Sportage. The driver of the Kia stopped and called 911. MEDIC pronounced Mr. White dead at the scene.
Investigators believe Mr. White was lying in the road before being struck by the Kia. The driver of the Kia was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.
Alcohol use was not a factor for the driver but is suspected for the pedestrian.
