Drying Out Today, More Rain for the Week

Umbrellas and rain boots will wardrobe staples this week as shower chances remain in the forecast through the weekend. We’ll actually get our longest dry slot from this morning through tomorrow afternoon. Warm front lifting north today will allow temps to reach the low to mid 60s, as clouds clear. Overnight clouds will return with lows bottoming out in the mid 30s. Rain returns tomorrow afternoon. For the higher elevations biggest concern will the potential for slick conditions as a wintry mix will be possible. Winter Storm Watch for Ashe, Watauga, Avery and portions of Burke and Caldwell counties from 4pm Tuesday until 6pm Wednesday. Accumulations of 1-3″ of snow will be possible with up to .1″ of ice. For the rest of the area this will be a long rain event with 1-3″ of rain not out of the question. Temps will top out in the mid 40s for Tuesday-Wednesday. Above average temps will return on Thursday, but rain chances will also remain steady during this period.
