NEWTON, NC — A Domino’s Pizza delivery driver who claimed he was the victim of an armed robbery in March is now facing several charges.
William Edward Keen, 35, of Hickory, is charged with Filing a False Police Report and Larceny by Employee.
According to Newton Police, a report was filed on the night of March 12th saying Keen was robbed at gunpoint while sitting at a red light on US 321 Business at West NC 10 Highway.
Immediately after the alleged robbery, police say Keen called his manager claiming that a black man ran up to his car, pointed a gun while demanding money and then took off in a dark colored SUV. The manager then called 911.
After a full investigation, police say they were able to determine the crime did not occur.
Keen confessed to the crime on Thursday, according to police, and told investigators that he made up the robbery story because he needed money for personal expenses.
