Mother Cited After Police Say She Left Her Child In A Hot Car At Northlake Mall

CHARLOTTE, NC — A mother was issued a citation Wednesday after police say she went inside a mall and left her 3-year-old child in the car.

CMPD says they were called just before 3pm in reference to a child that had been left unattended inside a vehicle at Northlake Mall. A customer reportedly found the child alone inside the vehicle and without air conditioning.

The customer brought the child into the mall, police say, and alerted security who then called CMPD. The temperature around that time Wednesday had climbed up to 95 degrees in the Charlotte area.

The child’s mother, Bazenga Baruti, 35, was cited for child neglect. The child is expected to be okay.
