WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Obama is taking some heat after admitting the terror group ISIS is proving more powerful than the U.S. first thought.
“Our head of the intelligence community Jim Clapper has acknowledged that, I think, they underestimated what had been taking place in Syria,” said the President.
White House aides insist President Obama was not trying to throw the intelligence community under the bus. Meantime, GOP critics say it’s the President who underestimated the threat.
“The intelligence people are pushing back hard,” said Senator John McCain (R, AZ). “We predicted this and watched it. It’s like watching a train wreck and warning every step of the way.”
The U.S.-led coalition has conducted more than 240 air strikes on ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria. A Pentagon spokesperson says there is no confirmation of any civilian casualties.
