Wrong-Way Driver Dies After Collision With Tractor-Trailer On I-485 In West Charlotte

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol the deadly accident on I-485 near Moores Chapel Road Wednesday morning was caused by a wrong-way driver.
Authorities say the driver of a 2018 Kia rental car entered the I-485 inner loop going the wrong way at about 3:45 a.m. before crashing into a tractor-trailer cab that was not hauling a load.
Officials have not identified the driver of the Kia who died in the crash.
The driver of the tractor-trailer cab, Debra Hatley, stated that she saw the wrong-way vehicle approaching and tried to avoid contact, but the vehicle drove in the tractor-trailer cab’s path.
