Kerrick Trial: Dramatic Testimony From First Responder

CHARLOTTE, NC — Dramatic testimony Tuesday about how paramedics found Jonathan Ferrell dead when they arrived. During cross examination, the defense pointed out Officer Kerrick had injuries. WCCB Charlotte’s Amy Cowman continues our trial team coverage with more on Tuesday’s testimony.
The state started the day with testimony from a paramedic who responded to the scene and described in detail how he found Jonathan Ferrell.
“We found him laying on the side of the road, face down, hands handcuffed behind hid back. He was pulseless and not breathing,” said paramedic Kenny Phillips.
The defense cross examined asking about Kerrick’s injuries.
“He had a laceration on inside of his mouth, on his cheek and had dried blood on lips,” said Phillips.
The defense also asked about Officer Kerrick’s mental state when paramedics arrived.
“He was hyperventilating, he was pale, very, very sweaty,” said Philips.
The state then presented an expert in analyzing car accidents, showing photos and giving testimony on the severe impact of Ferrell’s car crash, including showing photos of the windshield completely shattered and the extensive damage to where Ferrell was sitting when the car crashed.
A CSI investigator then opened evidence bags, one by one showing how Ferrell’s belongings were scattered outside the car, including his ball cap.
“It was in the tree debris mashed up against driver side vehicle,” said Phillips.
