UNDATED (AP) — The NL East-leading New York Mets picked up their fifth straight win to stay one game ahead of Washington. Eric Campbell singled home the tiebreaking run in a four-run eighth before Juan Lagares (lah-GAHR’-ehs) tripled home a pair in the Mets’ 5-1 victory at Miami. Yunel (YOO’-nehl) Escobar supplied a two-run single that snapped a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning of the Nationals’ 5-4 win over Arizona.

UNDATED (AP) — Anthony DeSclafani struck out a career-high nine over six innings of Cincinnati’s 3-2 triumph over St. Louis, preventing the Cardinals from expanding their 5 ½-game lead over Pittsburgh in the NL Central. Jay Bruce and Marlon Byrd hit RBI doubles in a three-run first that helped DeSclafani beat the Redbirds for the second consecutive start. The Pirates were 5-0 losers to the Chicago Cubs as Starlin Castro laced a pair of RBI doubles and Jorge Soler (soh-LEHR’) had two RBIs to support Jake Arrieta’s (ar-ee-EH’-tuhz) 12th win.

UNDATED (AP) — The Dodgers ended a four-game winning streak as Maikel (MY’-kehl) Franco belted a tiebreaking grand slam in the seven inning to lift Philadelphia past Los Angeles 6-2. Alex Wood was a loser in his first start for the Dodgers, whose lead in the NL West is down to two games over San Francisco. Hunter Pence capped his four-RBI night by slamming a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the eighth inning of the Giants’ 8-3 victory in Atlanta.

UNDATED (AP) — Carlos Gomez homered for the first time since joining the Houston Astros last week, but Prince Fielder countered with his own round-tripper before Texas put together a three-run fifth to beat AL West leaders, 4-3. Delino DeShields sparked the Rangers’ rally with an RBI triple before Rougned Odor (ROOG’-nehd oh-DOOR’) and Josh Hamilton added RBI singles. Texas relievers combined for four scoreless innings after Yovani Gallardo (yoh-VAH’-nee gy-AHR’-doh) gave up three runs and four hits.
