CHARLOTTE, NC– A Caldwell County teen is in the hospital after a car hit him in front of his home. Investigators say it happened moments after 15-year-old Grayson Walker’s family dog was hit and killed in the same spot.

It occurred around 7:30am on Fairwood Drive, off Highway 321 in Hudson. Investigators say Walker was hit by a car and landed 70 feet away in a neighbor’s yard, a horrific scene that unfolded as Walker tried to retrieve the family’s dog from the road, after the dog had just been hit and killed.

Paramedics flew Walker to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte on Monday with life-threatening injuries. Hudson resident Dennis Edney says his heart is breaking for Walker and his family. “It’s traumatic. I’ve got a 15-year-old stepson, it could have been him,” says Edney. “We’re praying for the family.”

Highway Patrol Troopers say Fairwood Drive is a heavily traveled road, because it’s connected to Highway 321. Trooper M.T. Stutts says he doesn’t think excessive speed is a factor in the accident, but that it is still part of the investigation. Fairwood Drive is a 35mph speed zone that residents say is often ignored.
