No Swimming Advisory Lifted For Lake Wylie Cove

The Latest:

A NO SWIMMING advisory was lifted today for a cove on Lake Wylie located upstream of the Hwy. 49 bridge in the Riverpointe community (see map below).

The advisory was issued on August 6, 2019 following a report of a sewage discharge to the cove from a broken sewer force main at 15941 Riverpointe Drive. The broken force main was repaired and the sewage discharge stopped.

Water samples collected by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ staff reveal that bacteria counts are within safe limits; therefore, the NO SWIMMING advisory has been lifted.

Original Story (Aug. 7, 2019):

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A no swimming advisory has been issued for a Lake Wylie cove due to a recent sewage discharge.

The advisory was issued for a cove in the Riverpointe community upstream of the Highway 49 bridge.  The sewage discharge was caused by a broken main servicing a residence on Riverpointe Drive.

Officials say the main has since been repaired and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services will continue to monitor the water quality until conditions are safe for human contact, at which time the no swimming advisory will be lifted.
