Fatal Accident Leaves Four Dead Friday Evening

CHARLOTTE, NC–On Friday, around 9:30pm, officers responded to Wilkinson Boulevard in response to a crash involving two motor vehicles.

Upon arrival, officers located four unresponsive victims as well as two additional victims who both had minor injuries.

MEDIC arrived and pronounced the four unresponsive victims deceased at the scene.  The other two individuals were transported to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center.

Detectives with the Major Crash Unit and officers with the D.W.I. Task Force responded to conduct an investigation.

The investigation indicated that a 2001 Hyundai Elantra had been traveling east on Wilkinson Boulevard and was making a U-Turn at Fairhaven Street at the time of the crash.

While executing the turn, the Hyundai was struck in the right rear door by a 2016 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle that was traveling west on Wilkinson Boulevard in the left lane at a high rate of speed.

The driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle, David Wooten, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  He had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Authorities say excessive speed was considered to be a contributing factor in the crash for Mr. Wooten.  It is currently unknown if he was impaired.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra, Dylan Glen Briggs, and the right front passenger, Jasmine Tayah Belush, both received minor injuries from the crash and were transported by MEDIC to the hospital.

All three passengers who had been seated in the backseat of the Hyundai were pronounced deceased at the scene.  They have been identified as Benjamin Vasquez, Claudia Leann Gray, and Hanna Michele Brotherton.
