WASHINGTON (AP) β A lawsuit has been filed against the NFL by a group of retired players charging the league with supplying them with illegal and risky narcotics and other painkillers to mask injuries. Players say they were never told about broken legs and ankles and were fed a dose of pills to cover up the pain.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) β The Minnesota Vikings have signed first-round draft pick Teddy Bridgewater. The Vikings traded up to get the quarterback from Louisville with the last pick of the first round so they could lock him into a four-year contract that includes a team option for the fifth season. Under the NFL’s salary slotting system, Bridgewater will get just under $7 million over four years.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) β The Pacers are home to the Miami Heat tonight in Game 2 of their best-of-seven NBA Eastern Conference final. Indiana won the opening game two days ago, 107-96, as Paul George had 24 points and David West 19. Following tonight’s game the series will move to Miami for Game 3 Saturday night.
NEW YORK (AP) β The NBA draft lottery is being conducted tonight. The teams with the best chances of winning the first pick are Milwaukee, followed by Philadelphia and Orlando.
UNDATED (AP) β The new ace of the Yankees’ pitching staff is going for his seventh win of the season tonight. Masahiro Tanaka is 6-0 in his first season of major league play and tonight he’ll be facing the Cubs in Chicago. Tanaka has a 2.17 earned run average with 66 strikeouts in 58 innings of work.
