CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A raccoon tested positive for rabies in southwest Charlotte.
Officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control say a dog was exposed after it attacked the raccoon. The attack happened on Windsong Drive.
The dog was current on its rabies vaccine and has been taken for a rabies booster vaccination with the 96-hour time frame of exposure, according to a news release. No humans were exposed to the raccoon.
This is the fourth confirmed rabies case in Mecklenburg County in 2020. All four have been from raccoons. There were a total of 16 rabies cases in Mecklenburg County in 2019. Eight of those 16 cases were from raccoons, according to CMPD ACC.
