UPDATE: Phil Cowherd, III and his son were arguing Sunday night when a gun went off. The bullet hit Cowherd’s son. The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office rushed to Cowherd’s home on Excalibur Court after his wife, Sheila, called 911.
“We had just come from the Panther’s game… too much to drink,” said Sheila Cowherd to the 911 operator. “I don’t know why my son was banging and knocking my door apart.”
She went on to say her husband shot her son in the leg because he wouldn’t stop banging on the door. We checked Monday night, and no charges had been filed.
HARRISBURG, N.C. — Cabarrus County deputies are investigating a shooting in Harrisburg that involved a town councilman and his son. Authorities say, Councilman Phillip Cowherd III and his son Phillip Cowherd IV got into an altercation and a gun went off Sunday evening.
Deputies say, the son was shot and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
At this time, deputies say it is unclear who fired the gun. Authorities say they will present the case to the District Attorney’s office to determine if charges will be filed.
