CHARLOTTE, NC — A spending agreement between Governor Pat McCrory and the legislature’s Republican leaders brings the state closer to having a budget, but it doesn’t answer questions for school districts across the state.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has been waiting on a budget decision from the general assembly for 49 days now, with funding for more than 500 teacher assistant jobs hanging in the balance.

“Imagine yourself as a teacher assistant getting my call this morning saying report to work, but by the way, right now I have to tell you that opportunity to be a part of Team CMS could end on September 4th,” said CMS Superintendent Ann Clark.

The Superintendent also said four new CMS schools will be ready to open on August 24th, when classes begin.
