CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD arrested one of its own today.  Detective Nvyia E. Keene is accused of falsifying her city time sheets.  She was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail around 3pm.

Keene is charged with one felony count of obtaining property by false pretense.  She had nothing to say to WCCB at her southwest Charlotte home this afternoon, but her neighbors describe her as popular and very nice.  Keene has been with the department since 2007 in the North Tryon Division. She works larceny from auto cases.  She makes about $53,000 dollars a year.  Keene is on unpaid leave pending a criminal and internal investigation.

Chief Rodney Monroe tells WCCB Charlotte, “The actions of this officer do not reflect the character of the dedicated men and women that wear the badge of the CMPD with honor.”  He goes on to say, “We will continue to hold officers to the highest standards and accountable for their actions.”

This is the third CMPD officer accused of falsifying time sheets in the past year.  A spokesperson tells WCCB that Officer Michael Thompson resigned after his arrest last September.  He was accused of falsifying time sheets while working off-duty for the Berewick Homeowners Association.

CMPD also arrested Officer Jeffrey Taylor last May.  He’s accused of falsifying time sheets while working off-duty at the Arboretum.  There’s no word on his current status with the department.
