COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) β TV talk show host Jerry Springer continues to back causes and candidates in Ohio, the state where he once aspired to be governor.
The former Cincinnati mayor campaigned Thursday in Warren for Democrat Nina Turner, who is vying for secretary of state.
Turner’s campaign says Springer spoke about the importance of having an honest broker as the state’s elections chief.
The 70-year-old host of the often-pugilistic show that bears his name says Ohio politics still runs in his blood.
Campaign finance reports from this year show Springer has given at least $12,000 to gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald and at least $28,000 to the state Democratic party.
An Ohio Republican Party spokesman says Springer’s appearance illustrates the size of FitzGerald’s problems and hurts the Democratic ticket.
