KANSAS CITY (AP) β€” As the city of San Francisco celebrates another National League pennant; the city of Kansas City is getting ready to host the World Series. The Fall Classic will start next Tuesday in KC as the American League won the right to host the opening games of the series by winning the All-Star Game.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” The Giants are back in the World Series for the third time in five years. They finished off the St. Louis Cardinals last night with a 6-3 win in Game 5 of the best-of-seven series. Travis Ishikawa (ee-shee-KAH’-wah) provided the heroics for the Giants as he slammed a three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth.

LAS VEGAS (AP) β€” The second round of the PGA’s Shriners Hospital Open is today in Las Vegas. At the end of play yesterday, Stewart Cink (sihnk) and Martin Laird were co-leaders after shooting 7-under-64’s. Scotland’s Russell Knox was a shot back.

INCHEON, South Korea (AP) β€” The second round of the LPGA event being held in South Korea is in the books and the leader is Karine Icher (kuh-REEN’ EE’-shur) of France. She shot a 4-under 68 today and has a one-stroke lead after 36 holes of play. Brittany Lincicome (LIHN’-sih-kohm) of the U.S, who birdied her final two holes for a 70, and Beatriz Ricari of Spain are tied for second.

CONOVER, N.C. (AP) β€” The first round of the Greater Hickory KIA Classic on the Champions Tour is today in Conover, North Carolina. Bernhard Langer (LAHN’-gur), the top player of the year on the circuit, is skipping the event. He has a tour-high five victories this season, including two majors.
