Charlotte Delegate to the DNC, Cozzie Watkins, Grabs Attention on Social Media

CHARLOTTE, NC – A 2020 Democratic National Convention delegate from Charlotte became a social media sensation after speaking during the event on Tuesday night.

“It took me almost 70 years to trend, but it’s a lot of fun,” said Cozzie Watkins with a laugh. 

Watkins spoke to millions of people watching the DNC while she announced the delegates from North Carolina.

She was charismatic and direct with her message.

“I wanted people to understand that the black vote is a powerful vote. The black women’s vote is extremely powerful,” said Watkins. 

She delivered her remarks from the Hidden Valley neighborhood in Charlotte, which is a historically black neighborhood that Watkins says needed some positive attention.

Her comments took off on social media and she was trending for several hours on Wednesday.

Watkins says she was back to work on Wednesday, working the front lines as a registered nurse. A job she’s done for decades.
