21-Year-Old Woman Charged After Two Pedestrians Struck, Killed By Car In Boone

BOONE, N.C. — Police say a woman has been charged after fatally hitting two pedestrians with a car in Boone on the night of Friday, September 4.

The Boone Police Department responded around 11 p.m. to the intersection of East King Street and Forest Hills Drive after multiple calls about the collision involving the pedestrians.

Upon arrival on the scene officers began rendering aid to the pedestrians that were struck. The Boone Fire Department and Watauga Medics also responded.

Both pedestrians, identified as 52-year-old Tracy Marie Lindamore and 54-year-old James Leroy Lindamore Jr., were pronounced dead on the scene due to their severe injuries from the accident, police say. Both victims were of Frostburg, Maryland.

After an investigation, police say a 2016 Nissan car driven by 21-year-old Madison Jane Mahagan was traveling East on E. King Street nearing the intersection as two pedestrians were crossing the roadway in a designated crosswalk.

According to Boone Police, Mahagan, from Durham, was arrested and initially charged with Driving While Impaired.

The investigation of the collision is on-going and any additional charges associated with the collision are pending the conclusion of the investigation by the Boone Police Department’s Traffic Safety and Reconstruction Unit and consultation with the Watauga County District Attorney.
