Girl Scouts Host Annual Food Drive For Second Harvest Food Bank

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —  Girl Scouts, Hornet’s Nest Council says they will safely collect non-perishable food donations on Saturday, October 10th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to help Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and its local partners.

The food drive will consist of seven collection sites throughout Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Stanly, Union, and York counties, according to a news release.

Officials say the hunger crisis in greater Charlotte has immensely grown since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and from March 19th through July 21st Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina distributed over 8 million more pounds of food and 5.6 million more pounds of fresh produce than 2019 during the same time.

Second Harvest Food Bank officials say support from the community is crucial because 75 percent of food they distribute comes from donations.
