NORMAN, OK — A fraternity shut down over a racist chant sung by some of its members is considering suing the University of Oklahoma. The alumni board for the OU chapter of SAE has hired a prominent attorney.
Stephen Jones is known for representing Timothy McVeigh. He says the alumni are outraged that the university president shut the house down immediately and branded all SAE members at OU as racists and bigots.
“While I understand the anger, I’m sometimes called in to handle the consequences of anger that perhaps has gone out of control,” said Jones. “I think it would have been better to have taken a more measured response.”
Jones says the two students who were expelled over that racist chant have apologized and thinks the incident is being exploited.
