CASTELLON, Spain (AP) β Kristian Sbaragli of Italy outsprinted his rivals to win the 10th stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Monday, while Tom Dumoulin of Netherlands retained the overall leader’s red jersey.
Sbaragli crossed the line inches ahead of second-place John Degenkolb of Germany and Jose Joaquin Rojas of Spain. All three finished on the same time.
The 25-year-old MTN-Qhubeka rider said he was delighted with his first Vuelta stage win because he’d lost a sprint to Degenkolb two days earlier.
Niki Terpstra held a 10-second lead late in the stage but was caught as the chasing group began to ascend the Alto del Desierto summit, leading to a mass sprint for the line.
Tuesday is a rest day for the riders.
