Windy for the Mountains; Unsettled Christmas Eve

It is a windy start for the mountains. Peak wind gusts will come shortly after daybreak, where gusts 50+ mph are expected. A high wind warning until noon. Winds will calm later this afternoon. Mild day across the rest of the region with highs reaching the upper 50s. Chilly tonight as lows fall to the low 30s. A cold front approaching from the west will bring clouds Wednesday and steady rain beginning Wednesday night into Christmas Eve. No white Christmas for Charlotte this year, but we will likely see a wintry mix for the mountains as cold air spills into the region late Christmas Eve night. Christmas day will be cold with highs only reaching the upper 30s to lower 40s. Seasonable for the weekend with highs in the low 50s, but freezing overnight with lows falling into the teens and 20s.
