Wiggins leaves Tour de Suisse with leg injury

OSSINGEN, Switzerland (AP) β€” Bradley Wiggins has withdrawn from the Tour de Suisse with bruising and swelling in his right thigh, a day after crashing during the fourth stage.

Wiggins’ Sky Team doctor, Steve Baynes, says on the team website that the 2012 Tour de France champion’s injuries require treatment back in Britain.

Wiggins was trying to avoid an incident by staying at the back of the peloton when the crash occurred 28 kilometers from the finish in Ossingen. He still finished the stage, nearly 12 minutes behind the winner.

Wiggins says, “they all slammed on the brakes ahead of me but there was another rider riding full gas who rode straight into the back of me.”

Wiggins will prepare for the British time trial championships in Monmouthshire on June 26, and use the time to fight off a chest infection.
