CMPD: 29-Year-Old Man Arrested, Charged In South Charlotte Homicide Case

Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives have charged a 29-year-old man with murder in a south Charlotte homicide case that happened Friday afternoon after the victim died from apparent trauma.

Police say they identified James Tyler Singleton as a suspect in the Divante Brown murder case following continued investigation. Arrest warrants were issued and on Monday he was taken into custody by CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

Following an interview by detectives, Singleton was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, according to CMPD.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are conducting a south Charlotte homicide investigation after a man was pronounced dead Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to an assault call around 2:20 p.m. to Riverbirch Drive of Sharon Road West, off of South Boulevard.

When Charlotte police arrived, they located a man with apparent trauma. The victim, identified 26-year-old Divante Brown, was pronounced dead on the scene by Medic.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
