‘Black Lives Matter’ Protesters Slow Traffic Marching to Rally

CHARLOTTE, NC — Protesters slowed traffic on roads in Charlotte Friday night as they made their way to a rally at Marshall Park.  This is part of the Black Lives Matter movement.  CMPD opted not to arrest any of the drivers.

Several dozen people took part in the rally at Marshall Park.  Many carried signs calling for the North Carolina Attorney General to retry CMPD Officer Wes Kerrick.

“People keep dying every day,” said activist Kassandra Ottley.  “We have a lot of cops killing people and not being held accountable.  We’ve had that right here in Charlotte with the mistrial.”

“It’s something we’re dealing with as a nation, and we want to keep the conversation going,” said Uptown resident Leroy Dunlap.

Earlier Friday, local pastors and members of the NAACP met with Roy Cooper to talk about his decision not to retry Kerrick.

The state dropped voluntary manslaughter charges after jurors deadlocked on a verdict last month.
