Kershaw, the NL’s Cy Young award winner in 2011 and 2013, was in complete command, allowing only one base-runner. Corey Dickerson reached on shortstop Hanley Ramirez’s error in the seventh inning.
NEW YORK (AP)β The New York Yankees beat Toronto for the 15th straight time at home with a 7-3 win that moved the Yanks within two and a-half games of the AL East-leading Blue Jays. The Yankees beat Mark Buehrle (BUR’-lee) for the ninth straight time, dropping him to 10-4 on the season.
WASHINGTON (AP) β Anthony Rendon’s (rehn-DOHNZ’) home run keyed a three-run seventh inning rally in the Washington Nationals 6-5 win over Houston. Coupled with Philadelphia’s 10-5 victory over Atlanta and Miami’s 6-1 loss to the Cubs, the Nationals now own a game and a-half lead over the Braves and Marlins in the NL East.
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP)β There will be no repeat for Spain as World Cup champion. Chile blanked Spain 2-0, handing the defending World Cup champions their second loss in two games in group play, dooming their chances to advance to the elimination round.
LONDON (AP) β Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) and Serena Williams are seeded No. 1 for Wimbledon. Djokovic, the 2011 Wimbledon champion, is ranked No. 2 but was given the top seeding by the All England Club ahead of top-ranked and French Open champ Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-EHL’ nah-DAHL’) and defending Wimbledon champion Andy Murray at No. 3.
