Sunny Start, Sloppy Finish to Workweek
A cold front from the northwest and a series of disturbances from the Gulf will make things miserable from midweek into the weekend.
The sunshine has returned to kick off the second week of February, but don’t get used to it. Clouds will build in this Monday evening, which could lead to isolated showers and patchy drizzle along I-40 and southward. Visibility may also be an issue for the Metro and southeastward, as fog may settle in the aftermath of the rain. Sunny skies should return by Tuesday afternoon, though, allowing for temperatures to possibly crack 60° in the Queen City for the first time in nearly two weeks.
The sunshine will be leaving as quickly as it returns, however. A series of Gulf systems will team up against the Carolinas with a cold front from the northwest, making things miserable by midweek onwards. Thursday looks particularly messy, with some spots picking up around an inch throughout the day. Models are still hashing out whether or not we see wintry weather in the Carolinas again this weekend, but it’s looking messy again regardless of temperature.
