Deputies say Cornell stopped a second time on Husband’s Creek Road.  As deputies approached the vehicle, Cornell is accused of pulling out a handgun, according to a news release.  Investigators say the deputies fired their weapons and Cornell was shot two times.

Deputies say Cornell was transported to Caldwell Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.  Cornell was served with two outstanding warrants for arrest.  One was for a probation violation related to an assault with a deadly weapon case that happened in December 2019.  He was also served with a warrant for arrest for assault with a deadly weapon on a government official related to this incident.

The SBI is investigating the officer-involved shooting.  Investigators say a handgun was recovered at the scene and body camera footage was given to the SBI as part of the investigation.
