CHARLOTTE, NC — The man neighbors accuse of standing naked in his doorway and outside as women and children walk past his home opened up to WCCB Charlotte Monday.
He was on his way to face dozens of angry neighbors at the Home Owners Association meeting to discuss his accused naked rituals.
“I’m hurt!” said Gerard Leeper. “How you going to crucify someone on the cross if they don’t show up to the cross?”
HOA President Xavier Hodges says Leeper has been standing at his door naked repeatedly for ten years, and neighbors say he’s taking it outside.
“You voluntarily come to the door, you’re on the cell phone, rubbing your genitals on the glass,” said Hodges. “Be for real, you know? When kids come off the school bus, there’s certain times that you do it. That’s our problem right there.”
A neighborhood filled with kids playing near his front door.
“He was doing it inside first, but now he’s taking it to the point where he’s coming outside the house,” said Adrienna Harris. “So the thing that you ask yourself is, ‘What’s next?'”
WCCB Charlotte asked Leeper if he’d ever stood naked in front of children? He said no.
“I got nothing but love inside of me for anybody,” said Leeper. “Nothing but love, and they should know me. They should know it.”
Police have at least seven indecent exposure reports in which neighbors say a man at Leeper’s address stood in his door way naked, in his garage and in the front yard.
Police say it’s legal inside, and no one has been able to snap a photo of him outside.
No one has seen me outside nude, but when you want to paint a picture of someone that you want to paint, you go to the measure of whatever it takes,” said Leeper.
He says someone could have photoshopped him standing naked in his doorway. The HOA president says no.
“What our main concern right now is, is getting him some help because evidently he needs some help,” said Hodges.
After the meeting Monday evening, the HOA decided to give Leeper a chance to go to counseling first.
Police say if he does it again, he could go to jail if the person who sees it testified in court.
“I’m the witch hunt that they’re on,” said Leeper.
Leeper says neighbors broke the law when they snapped photos of him inside his home.
Investigators say privacy is a concern, but if a person is intentionally exposing themselves to the public, someone can take photograph evidence.
