Cardinals win again…Lynch runs through Giants…Niners rally
UNDATED (AP) β The Arizona Cardinals continue to own the NFL’s best record and a two-game lead over Seattle in the NFC West.
Drew Stanton threw a go-ahead touchdown pass in the fourth quarter before the Cardinals’ defense scored twice in a 31-14 win over the St. Louis Rams. He entered the game after Carson Palmer went down with a left knee injury in the fourth quarter.
Stanton put the Cardinals ahead for the first time in the second half with a 48-yard scoring strike to John Brown midway through the final period. Patrick Peterson later returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown, and Antonio Cromartie capped the scoring by bringing back a fumble 14 yards for a TD.
Marshawn Lynch rushed for a season-high 140 yards and a career-best four touchdowns in the Seahawks’ 38-17 win over the New York Giants. Seattle rolled up a team-record 350 rushing yards on the Giants, the most in the NFL since Cleveland had 351 against Kansas City in 2009.
The game was tied at 17 in the fourth quarter until Lynch rumbled for two TDs and Russell Wilson added a one-yard scoring run.
Eli Manning threw for 283 yards and a touchdown for the Giants, who are 3-6 following their fourth consecutive loss.
The San Francisco 49ers rallied to stay three games behind the Cardinals.
Phil Dawson kicked a 35-yard field goal in overtime to cap the 49ers’ comeback in a 27-24 victory against the Saints. Dawson’s game-winning kick came after Ahmad Brooks sacked and stripped Drew Brees (breez).
The Saints appeared to have a victory in hand late in the fourth quarter. Brees threw a two-yard scoring pass to Jimmy Graham with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter before New Orleans put the Niners in a fourth-down situation. But Colin Kaepernick (KAP’-ur-nik) completed a 51-yard pass on the fourth-down play before Dawson hit a 45-yard kick to tie the game with 44 seconds remaining in regulation.
Brees hit Graham for a Hail Mary touchdown on the final play of regulation, but Graham was flagged for offensive pass interference to nullify the TD before the Saints dropped to 4-5.
Also in the NFL:
β Aaron Rodgers was the star in the Green Bay Packers’ 55-14 dismantling of the Chicago Bears, throwing all six of his touchdowns passes by halftime. Rodgers hit Jordy Nelson for TDs of 73 and 40 yards before Reggie Cobb’s scoring grab put the Packers ahead 42-0 just before halftime. Green Bay’s other touchdown came on Casey Hayward’s 82-yard interception return in the fourth quarter. The rout allowed the 6-3 Packers stay a game behind the first-place Lions in the NFC North and dropped the Bears to 3-6.
β Detroit has a 7-2 record and a four-game winning streak after Matthew Stafford threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Theo Riddick with 29 seconds remaining to lift the Lions past Miami 20-16. Stafford also threw a 47-yard TD pass to Calvin Johnson, who had seven catches for 113 yards in his first game since suffering an ankle injury Oct. 5. The 5-4 Dolphins only managed one touchdown, which came after they blocked a Detroit field goal attempt and returned it deep into Lions territory. Miami’s Ryan Tannehill threw for 215 yards and a touchdown.
β The New York Jets have ended their team record-tying eight-game losing streak and dropped the Steelers to 6-4. Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH’-lis-bur-gur) had thrown six touchdown passes in each of his last two games before tossing two interceptions and failing to get into the end zone until the waning moments of Pittsburgh’s 20-13 loss to the Jets. Roethlisberger was picked off twice by Jaiquawn Jarrett, who also had a sack and a fumble recovery. Michael Vick threw two touchdown passes and became the first quarterback to rush for more than 6,000 career yards. Vick’s TD toss to Jace (jays) Amaro put the Jets ahead 17-0 in the second quarter.
β Tony Romo looked good after missing one game due to a back injury, completing 20 of 27 passes for 246 yards and three first-half touchdowns in the Dallas Cowboys’ 31-17 win against Jacksonville in London. He completed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten in the first quarter, and then hit Dez Bryant for a pair of TDs in the second. Joseph Randle had a 40-yard touchdown run for the 7-3 Cowboys, and DeMarco Murray carried 19 times for 100 yards to go over the century mark for the ninth time in 10 games this season.
β Peyton Manning threw five touchdown passes in less than 17 minutes during the second and third quarters of the Denver Broncos’ 41-17 romp at Oakland. Julius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders each had two TD catches after C.J. Anderson’s spectacular 51-yard catch-and-run. Manning went 31 for 44 for 340 yards before sitting out the fourth quarter with the game locked up. He helped the Broncos improve to 7-2 and send the Raiders to their 15th consecutive loss.
β Anthony Sherman recovered a fumble to set up Alex Smith’s 8-yard touchdown run with nearly 9 minutes left in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 17-13, come-from-behind victory at Buffalo.Smith reached the end zone two plays after Sherman punched the ball out of the hands of Bills punt-returner Leodis McKelvin and then pounced on the loose ball at Buffalo’s 26. Jamaal Charles had a 39-yard touchdown run as the 6-3 Chiefs scored twice in span of 4:31 to overcome a 13-3 deficit. Kyle Orton was 29 of 48 for 259 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown to Chris Hogan for the 6-3 Bills.
β Baltimore’s defense played shutout ball in the last three quarters of a 21-7 triumph over Tennessee. The 6-4 Ravens repeatedly harassed rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who went 16 for 27 for 179 yards, an interception and five sacks in his first NFL road start. However, the Titans led until Justin Forsett had touchdown runs of nine and 11 yards to put Baltimore ahead 14-7. Forsett finished with 112 yards on 20 carries.
β Matt Ryan threw for 219 yards and one touchdown to help the Atlanta Falcons beat Tampa Bay 27-17 and end a five-game losing streak. Josh McCown’s second TD pass of the day brought the Buccaneers within 19-17 early in the fourth quarter, but Ryan responded with a 5-yard pass to Roddy White five minutes later before adding a two-point conversion. The 3-6 Falcons won for the first time since embarrassing the Bucs on Sept. 18.

Oregon, Baylor, Ohio State climb poll
UNDATED (AP) β There are some major changes in the latest Associated Press college football poll following losses by Auburn, Michigan St. and Notre Dame.
Mississippi State and Florida State remain 1-2 for the fifth consecutive week, but Oregon has climbed to third following a 51-27 rout of Utah. Alabama remains fourth after pulling out an overtime win at LSU. TCU moved up a notch following its rout of Kansas State.
Baylor climbed four places to sixth after thumping Oklahoma, 48-14. Arizona State is up four spots to seventh with a 55-31 victory against Notre Dame. Ohio State moved five spots to eighth after beating Michigan State 49-37. Auburn fell 41-38 to Texas A&M, dropping the Tigers from third to ninth. Mississippi is 10th after sitting 12th last week.
Oklahoma dropped out of the rankings for the first time since the final poll of the 2009.

Young stays with Yanks
NEW YORK (AP) β The New York Yankees have re-signed outfielder Chris Young to a one-year contract.
The 31-year-old Young started this year with the New York Mets and was released in early August after hitting just .205 in 88 games.
He made his debut with the Yankees in early September and homered in three straight games, then stole home in another game. Young hit .282 with 10 RBIs in 23 games for the Bombers.
NASCAR-PHOENIX
Harvick wins race to get to Final Four with Newman, Hamlin and Logano
AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) β NASCAR’s Chase for the championship has come down to Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano following Sunday’s racing at Phoenix International Raceway.
Harvick dominated the Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500, leading for 264 laps to earn an automatic spot in the four-man Chase field in the finale next weekend at Homestead. Jeff Gordon finished second but lost his bid for a fifth Sprint Cup championship when Newman knocked Kyle Larson into the wall on the final lap to finish 11th, a point ahead of Gordon.
Also failing to advance were Brad Keselowski, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards. Kenseth finished third in the race, Keselowski was fourth and Edwards 15th.

Suns deal Warriors first loss
UNDATED (AP) β The Golden State Warriors have become the last NBA team to suffer a loss.
Isaiah Thomas scored 15 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Phoenix Suns handed the Warriors their first loss in six games, 107-95. Goran Dragic (DRAH’-gihch) and Gerald Green each had 19 points for the Suns, who trailed by eight before outscoring Golden State 36-16 in the final period.
Stephen (STEH’-fehn) Curry 28 points and 10 assists, but he also completed an unwanted triple-double with 10 turnovers. Draymond Green had 22 points for the Warriors, who pinned Houston with its first loss on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers are the lone NBA team without a victory after Kobe Bryant and Jeremy Lin each scored 21 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 107-92 drubbing of Charlotte. Lin shot 8-for-12 from the field, had seven assists and helped the Lakers outscore the Hornets 34-14 in the third period.
Philadelphia is 0-7 after DeMar DeRozan scored 24 points and Terrence Ross had 17 in Toronto’s 120-88 pounding of the 76ers. Lou Williams added 16 points to help the Raptors win for the sixth time in seven games.
In other NBA action:
β Luol Deng (LOO’-ul dehng) scored a season-high 30 points and Miami earned its seventh straight win over Dallas by downing the Mavericks 105-96. Chris Bosh and Dwyane (dwayn) Wade added 20 apiece to the victory.
β Reggie Jackson scored 11 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to help the Oklahoma City Thunder beat Sacramento Kings 101-93. Jackson contributed eight points in the final 2:17, going 6 of 7 from the free throw line.
β Portland downed Denver 116-100 as LaMarcus Aldridge contributed 28 points and nine rebounds. Wesley Matthews hit five 3-pointers in added 21 points to the victory.
β The Brooklyn Nets are 4-2 after Bojan Bogdanovic scored a season-high 22 points in a 104-96 win over Orlando. Mason Plumlee added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Nets, who outrebounded the Magic 45-31 and won despite allowing the Orlando to shoot 52 percent.
β Gordon Hayward scored 17 points and Utah came back from a double-digit deficit in the second half to beat Detroit 97-96. Hayward’s 3-pointer gave the Jazz a 96-94 lead with 2 minutes left.

Lightning take over East lead
UNDATED (AP) β The Tampa Bay Lightning lead the NHL’s Eastern Conference standings at 11-3-1 after picking up their sixth consecutive victory.
Steven Stamkos scored twice and Ryan Callahan had the lone shootout goal to lift the Lightning past the Red Wings 4-3 in Detroit. Ben Bishop stopped all three shots he faced during the shootout and made 17 saves to secure his ninth victory of the season.
The Red Wings came away with a point thanks to Gustav Nyquist’s goal midway through the third period.
Elsewhere on ice:
β Nick Bonino victimized his former team with the lone shootout goal in Vancouver’s 2-1 win at Anaheim. Alexandre Burrows scored the Canucks’ regulation goal, and Eddie Lack turned back 28 shots before stopping three more in the shootout.
β Edmonton downed the New York Rangers 3-1 as Benoit Pouliot (BEHN’-wah POO’-lee-aht) scored the go-ahead goal against his former team midway through the second period. Viktor Fasth (FAHST) made 20 saves in the Oilers’ second straight win since a four-game skid.
β Defensemen Trevor van Riemsdyk (van-REEMZ’-dyk), Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson (SHAHL’-mur-suhn) scored in the first period of Chicago’s 5-2 verdict over San Jose. Bryan Bickell (BIK’-ul) added a big goal in the third period and Corey Crawford finished with 32 saves as the Blackhawks halted a three-game home losing streak.

Taylor wins in Mississippi
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) βNick Taylor overcame a four-shot deficit to win the Sanderson Farms Championship by two strokes over Boo Weekley and Jason Bohn.
Taylor the first Canadian-born winner on the PGA Tour since Mike Weir in 2007, firing a 6-under 66 for a 16-under total in Jackson, Miss.
John Rollins had a two-shot lead coming into the final round before fading with a 73 to tie for fourth.
GOLF-HSBC CHAMPIONSHIP
Watson wins tourney
SHANGHAI (AP) β Bubba Watson captured his first World Golf Championship when he holed a bunker shot for eagle on the 18th hole to get into a playoff, and then made a 20-foot birdie putt to beat Tim Clark and win the HSBC Champions.
Watson had a final round of 2-under 70 to finish 11-under for the tournament. He had a two-shot lead with three holes to play until he appeared to throw it all away. He missed the 16th green with a lob wedge and made bogey, and then took two shots to get out of a bunker on the par-3 17th and made double bogey to fall one shot behind a five-way tie for the lead.
GOLF-LPGA MIZUNO CLASSIC
Lee wins LPGA event
SHIMA, Japan (AP) β Mi Hyang Lee birdied the fifth hole of a three-way playoff to win the Mizuno Classic for her first LPGA title.
Lee sank a birdie putt to beat compatriot Ilhee Lee and Japan’s Kotono Kozuma. Lee shot 69 in regulation to finish tied at 11-under 205.
FORMULA ONE-BRAZILIAN GRAND PRIX
Rosberg edges Hamilton
SAO PAULO (AP) β Nico Rosberg held off a strong charge by Lewis Hamilton to win the Brazilian Grand Prix and trim the margin between the top two drivers in the points race. The German cut his points-deficit to 17, but Hamilton will keep the upper hand going into the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton will clinch his second title with another second-place finish.
