Napoli tags Tanaka

UNDATED (AP) — Mike Napoli hit a two-out homer off of Masahiro Tanaka in the top of the ninth to give Boston a 2-1 win over the Yankees. Napoli went opposite field to right after striking out in his previous two at-bats against the Yankees star. It was Napoli’s second homer of the season off Tanaka who was trying to become the majors’ first 12-game winner. But the American League ERA leader dropped to 11-3 scattering seven hits in a complete game. He struck out eight and walked one.

Tanaka was locked in a pitchers’ duel with Jon Lester, who took a no-hitter into the sixth. He wound up giving up an unearned run on five hits in eight innings to up his record to 9-7.

In other finals;

— Cleveland’s Josh Tomlin tossed a one-hitter in the Indians’ 5-0 win over Seattle. Tomlin struck out a career-high 11 and faced just one batter over the limit. The Indians staked him to a two-run lead in the first on RBI hits by Michael Brantley and Carlos Santana.

NBA-HEAT

Wade, Haslem follow James; Bosh deciding

MIAMI (AP) — Dwyane Wade has made his choice. Chris Bosh is still mulling his.

Wade has told the Heat that he is opting out of the final two years and nearly $42 million in his contract, and will become a free agent on Tuesday. That’s the same decision that LeBron James revealed earlier in the week.

Udonis Haslem has also told the Heat that he will not pick up his $4.6 million option for next season.

But Bosh is still weighing his options, agent Henry Thomas told The Associated Press, after a miscommunication earlier in the Saturday suggested that the forward was already sold on the idea of opting out.

NBA-NETS-KIDD

Kidd shopping around

NEW YORK (AP) — A person with knowledge of the details says Brooklyn coach Jason Kidd is talking to the Milwaukee Bucks about a job after losing his bid for front office power with the Nets.

The Nets denied Kidd’s request and then told him he was free to talk to other teams about jobs, the person tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no official comments were made about the situation. The Bucks then sought and were granted permission to interview Kidd.

Kidd just finished his first season as Nets coach. It’s unclear what role the Bucks would be interested in him for, since they have both coach Larry Drew and general manager John Hammond under contract.

NASCAR-KENTUCKY

Keselowski outclasses the field

SPARTA, Ky. (AP) — Brad Keselowski started from the front and stayed there for most of the night in winning the Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway. Keselowski dominated in earning his second win of the season. He led 199 of the 267 laps for his first career victory from the pole. Keselowski becomes the first two-time winner at the Kentucky track, following his victory in 2012.

Navigating the post-race celebration proved to be the most difficult issue of the night for Keselowski. He cut his right hand on a broken champagne bottle and had to have four stitches.

Kyle Busch settled for second, followed by Ryan Newman, Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

Points leader Jeff Gordon finished sixth.

NASCAR-KENSETH EXTENSION

SPARTA, Ky. (AP) — Joe Gibbs Racing has announced a contract extension for driver Matt Kenseth and Dollar General’s expanded sponsorship of his No. 20 Toyota Camry.

The discount store chain will sponsor the car for 30 races in 2015 including the season-opening Daytona 500. That’s up from 27 events this year and 17 in 2013.

JGR president J.D. Gibbs didn’t specify the length of Kenseth’s extension, only that it was for a “number of years.”
