CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As temperatures continue to rise, community leaders are coming together to open cooling stations in Mecklenburg County to help residents beat the heat.
County leaders are working in partnership with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office (CMEMO) and homeless service providers to offer various ways to cool down this summer.
County officials provide the following free resources:
Cooling Stations:
- Roof Above will use its Day Services Center located on 945 North College Street as a cooling station for anyone experiencing homelessness in Mecklenburg County.
- The Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
- Misting stations, fans, water fountains, chairs, and face coverings will be available at the Center.
- CATS will provide free transportation for anyone looking to access services at the Center.
Spray Grounds:
- Clarks Creek Community Park, 5435 Hucks Road.
- Captain Jack, Elizabeth Park, 1100 East Trade Street.
- Cordelia Park, 600 East 24th Street.
- First Ward Park, 309 East Seventh Street.
- Latta Park, 601 East Park Avenue.
- Nevin Park, 6100 Statesville Road.
- Romare Bearden Park, 300 South Church Street.
- West Charlotte Recreation Center, 2401 Kendall Drive.
Pools:
- The Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center (2014 Statesville Avenue) is open Thursday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
- Cordelia Pool (2100 North Davidson Street) is open Sunday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., with limited capacity.

Try heading to one of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library locations from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, or from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in order to beat the heat.

Free fans in Mecklenburg County
Free fans are available to residents 60-years-old and up, and those from 18 to 59-years-old, who receive disability income.
County officials say there is a one fan per person limit while supplies last.

Energy Bill Assistance
Mecklenburg County residents who are experiencing a cooling (or heating) energy bill rated crisis can apply for energy bill assistance through the DSS Crisis Intervention Program.
